Nordic swan eco-label: Our Munken paper carries the swan eco-label

About print technology in general.
Our reel-feed printers for book production use a so-called ‘flash fuser’. Instead of a heating reel, which heats both the paper and toner to ensure the toner sticks to the paper, a flash of UV-light is emitted. The toner used in our machines contains some particular UV-reagents which become extremely warm just when exposed to UV light, so the toner is burnt onto the paper in this way. This has three advantages :

Flat books
Firstly, the paper is not heated. This means that moisture is not drawn out of the paper such that it warps. This allows us to deliver a finished book that lies neatly and flat on the table in the same way as a book printed using offset.

Less power
The other advantage is that much less power is used as only the toner needs heating. Our reel-fed technology actually only uses approx. 10% of the power used by a traditional digital print machine to print one page.

Speed and price
As the paper does not need to be heated to 180 degrees to burn the toner to the page, we can print at a much faster speed. Time is money – so at the same time we ensure that we have the absolute sharpest prices on black and white books in print runs of 100-1,000 copies.
